Editorial Board 2006-2007

Angela Winfield

Angela is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. During her first year of law school, Angela participated in the Fredrick Douglass Moot Court Competition and was a quarter finalist in the Langfan Moot Court Competition. In the summer of 2006, she worked for LII where she authored pieces including the 2005/2006 Supreme Court Term Highlights and a guide on online legal research. She also works through BR Legal to help start-up businesses with legal matters. Prior to attending Cornell Law School, Angela interned with Reader's Digest and a civil rights attorney in Orange County NY. In 2005, Angela received her B.A. in Political Science & Human Rights and a minor in Religion from Barnard College of Columbia University.

Breanne Atzert

Breanne is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. During the summer of 2006, Breanne worked for Honorable William Skretny at the District Court for the Western District of New York in Buffalo. Prior to attending Cornell Law School, Breanne graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania with a BS in Political Science. There, Breanne worked at the Center for Political Participation, a non-partisan organization that works to promote civic engagement in young people.

Cecelia Sander

Cecelia is a J.D. Candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She spent the summer of 2006 assisting Stephen Yale-Loehr in updating his immigration treatise, focusing especially on the provisions enacted by the Violence Against Women Acts to protect abused noncitizens. Before coming to lawschool Cecelia worked at a boutique commercial litigation firm in New York City and spent a year as an AmeriCorps volunteer in Providence, Rhode Island working with Head Start children. She grew up on a farm in Missouri and received her B.A. from Cornell University, cum laude, with a double major in Government and Asian Studies. Cecelia is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

Clinton Becker

Clinton is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 and is the President of the Public Interest Law Union. He spent his first summer working at the New York County District Attorney's Office. During his first year of law school, Clinton was the 1L representative for both the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association and the Public Interest Law Union. He also participated in volunteer projects with Law Students in Action and other Cornell student organizations. Clinton graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Finance and a concentration in Accounting. Before attending law school, Clinton was a senior associate at KPMG Forensic, a consulting practice in New York City. He specialized in fraudulent financial reporting investigations and regulatory compliance advisory services. Clinton passed the CPA exam.

Craig Newton

Craig is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2007 at Cornell Law School. A graduate of the Naval Academy, Craig was a Naval Flight Officer and then a threat air defense tactics analyst at the Office of Naval Intelligence. He has spent the summers during law school working at firms in Atlanta and San Diego.

Dylan Letrich

Dylan is a J.D./LL.M.(International and Comparative Law) candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. He spent the summer of 2006 studying at Cornell Law's Summer Institute in Paris and practicing French with his French host family. Before coming to Cornell Law, Dylan was working in the United Arab Emirates teaching English and test preparation. During his 1L year at Cornell, he was active in moot court, competing for Cornell at the Fasken-Martineau Competition in Toronto and reaching the final four in Cornell's first-year tournament. Dylan is also coach of the Cornell Undergraduate Mock Trial Team and has been involved with Mock Trial for ten years, including at the University of Southern California where he received his B.A in Philosophy (Ethics, Law, and Value Theory) in May 2004.

Elizabeth Cusack

Elizabeth is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She spent the beginning of the summer of 2006 as a research assistant to Dean Barbara Holden-Smith, researching her biography of Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy. She then traveled to China to participate in Cornell's Summer Law Institute in Suzhou. Elizabeth received a BS in Finance with a concentration in Real Estate and minor in English after only three years from the University of Connecticut.

Emily Green

Emily is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. During the summer of 2006, Emily interned for the Honorable William M. Nickerson, Federal District Court Judge for the Northern District of Maryland. Prior to attending Cornell Law School, Emily worked at Xlibris, a book publisher in Philadelphia, PA, where she designed covers and interior layouts for childrens' books. Emily received her B.A. in Communications, with a minor in Psychology, from the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed an honors thesis examining the effects of September 11th on domestic and international press coverage of President Bush.

Ferve Ozturk

Ferve Ozturk is a J.D. candidate for the 2008 class. Ferve is interested in international arbitration and trade and has spent the summer of 2006 taking classes at the Paris Summer Institute of International and Comparative Law. Ferve is also intereted in business finance, and has assisted Professor Hockett in preparing a new textbook on financial instituions. Ferve is also the treasurer of the Briggs International Society and was involved in the first-year moot court competition. Ferve graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a B.A. in political science. Ferve currently lives in Huntington , West Virginia, but was born in Turkey and has Turkish proficiency.

Heidi Guetschow

Heidi is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She grew up in Anchorage, Alaska and has an M.S. in Geology from the University of Washington, where she studied the volcanic "plumbing" beneath a volcano in the Canary Islands. Heidi graduated from Carleton College with a B.A. in Geology and concentrations in Environmental Science and German. She has worked variously as a harbor seal trainer, a technical writer, a web designer, and a geochemist. Heidi will spend the summer of 2006 at the Cornell Summer Institute of International and Comparative Law in Paris.

Heidy M. Abreu

Heidy is a J.D./LL.M. candidate for the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She spent the summer of 2006 working as a law clerk for the United States Attorney Office for the Northern District of New York and also attended the Summer Institute of International and Comparative Law in Paris, France. Before attending law school Heidy recieved a B.A. with a double major in Psychology and Sociology from Dartmouth College, where she completed an honors thesis on emotion regulation and cognition.

Jamie Rogers

Jamie Rogers is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. Jamie spent the summer of 2006 working as a law clerk for the City Attorney of New Orleans. He is Senior Vice-President of the Cornell Law Student Association and research coordinator for the Student Hurricane Network. Jamie graduated from Connecticut College in 2004 with a B.A. in history and American Studies; he currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the College as a young alumni representative.

Jill Diamond

Jill is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She grew up in Gardiner, Maine and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Colby College. She then moved to San Francisco and her volunteer work with the San Francisco AIDS Foundation's syringe exchange program prompted her to get Master's degree in Public Health from San Jose State University. Jill is president of Cornell Advocates for Human Rights and co-vice president of Cornell's chapter of the National Lawyer's Guild.

John Schultz

John is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008. He graduated from the University of California San Diego in 2002 where he played four years of varsity baseball. Upon graduating, John took a job as a healthcare consultant in San Francisco. In that capacity, John traveled weekly to meet clients in such places as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Seattle in order to advise clients on complex managed care relationships. During the summer of 2006, John worked for Cornell's Office of the University Counsel as a summer clerk in the corporate department.

Kelly Cooke

Kelly is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. During the summer of 2006, Kelly worked as an intern for the City of Ithaca Attorney's Office. Prior to attending law school, Kelly worked in medical research, helping to complete one of the nation's largest epidemiological studies on pre-term labor. Kelly received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Kelly McRobie

Kelly is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2007 at Cornell Law School. During the summer of 2006, Kelly worked as a summer associate for Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham in New York City. She will spend Fall 2006 studying at the Faculty of Laws, University College London. In the summer of 2005, Kelly worked for the California Innocence Project at the Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy in San Diego before attending the Cornell Summer Institute of International and Comparative Law in Paris. Prior to attending Cornell Law School, Kelly worked in business development at WebTea, Inc. and as a research associate at IXI Corporation, a financial marketing firm in McLean, VA. Kelly received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Colgate University in 1999.

Khara Tusa

Khara Ashlynn Tusa is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She spent her first-year summer working for Farrell Fritz, P.C., a New York law firm, as well as interning for Judge Sandra Feuerstein at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Previously, she participated in summer internships at both the Nassau County District Attorney's Office and Nassau County Family Court. Khara was born and raised in Merrick, New York, and now spends her summers in the eastern Long Island town of Water Mill, where her family recently relocated. She is the eldest of four children, having two younger brothers, Bryce and Westley, as well as a younger sister, Brittany. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Labor Relations at Cornell University in 2005. She continues to be interested in the labor and employment fields, but also seeks to branch out into other areas as well.

Kiernan Joliat

Kiernan Joliat is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She received her B.A. in psychology from the University of Guelph in 2005. During the summer of 2006, she attended Cornell's Summer Institute of International and Comparative Law in Paris, bringing the number of countries she has lived in up to four. When she isn't in the library, she enjoys digital photography for fun and a very small amount of profit.

Elizabeth Hanks

Elizabeth (Liz) Hanks is currently serving as the Executive Editor of the LII. Liz grew up in Houston, Texas, went to the University of Texas at Austin, and will graduate from Cornell Law in 2007. As well as helping with the LII, Liz is the President of the Cornell Law Students Association, Editor for the Journal of Law and Public Policy, and served as President of the Public Interest Law Union as a 2L. Over the summer, Liz worked for Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington D.C. and Paul Hastings in Los Angeles.

Melissa Colon

Melissa is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2007. She is a Managing Editor of the Cornell Legal Information Institute and Note Editor for the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. During her term as Vice-President of Cornell's Latino/a American Law Student Association, Melissa helped to spread awareness about diversity issues and organized Cornell Law School's 1st Annual Minority Alumni Event. She currently serves as Chair to the 3rd Annual Minority Law Student Leadership Summit, which provides a unique forum for minority student leaders to meet one another and exchange ideas for solving their common organizational challenges. Melissa is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and a Legal Opportunity Scholar through the American Bar Association. Melissa was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She is the first person in her family to graduate college, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Hunter College. Her love of politics and policy led her to work for a variety of elected officials, on political campaigns, and for non-profit organizations. Before attending law school, Melissa participated in the prestigious New York City Urban Fellows Program, where she worked at the New York City Department of Education's Office of New Schools. She is fluent in Spanish.

Michael Fornasiero

Michael is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2007 at Cornell Law School. After receiving a B.A. in Media Studies, Michael spent six years working in New York City's television and film industries. Among his many credits, Michael served as a grip on The Myth of Fingerprints, a thoroughly uninspired tale of family dysfunction best remembered as the backdrop for a budding romance between director Bart Freundlich and the very pale Julianne Moore, presently one of Hollywood's happiest power couples. Michael also spent a season scrambling across catwalks as an electrician on the AMC television series Remember WENN, a treacly remembrance of Pittsburgh radio's golden age created by Rupert Homes, who probably should have had his typewriter taken away from him after he penned the deadly earworm "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" a decade earlier. In 2001, Michael packed his bags and moved to Colorado where he slaved away in real estate development, rehabilitating historic commercial and residential properties. His academic interests include legal philosophy and property law.

Miguel Loza

Miguel Loza is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. During the summer of 2006, Miguel worked for Harter, Secrest & Emery LLP in Rochester, NY. Prior to attending Cornell Law, he worked as a staff writer for a daily community newspaper and also a weekly newspaper in the Los Angeles area, reporting and writing on a variety of topics in both English and Spanish. He received a B.A. in History and Political Science from Stanford University in 2005. During his time at Stanford, Miguel studied abroad in Santiago, Chile and donated his time to the Stanford Community Law Clinic, where he served as a Spanish interpreter.

Miles Norton

Miles is a J.D. candidate for the class of 2007 at Cornell Law School. After receiving his B.A. in English from Reed College, Miles lived in Brooklyn, NY for four years while working for an independent book publisher. He spent the summer of 2005 researching international public law for Professor David Wippman, and the summer of 2006 as a Summer Associate in the New York offices of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. Miles is also a Managing Editor for the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy, is an Officer in the Cornell Legal Aid Clinic, and plays left wing for the Cornell Law ice hockey team, the Tort Freezers.

Molly Curren Rowles

Molly is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She is Vice President of Cornell Advocates for Human Rights and a member of the Humanity in Action planning board. She spent the summer of 2006 providing legal services to low-income clients at Tompkins/Tioga Neighborhood Legal Services in Ithaca. Prior to attending law school, Molly spent several years in Boston working as Coordinator of the Harvard University Committee on Human Rights Studies and volunteering with AIDS Action Committee. Molly received a B.A. in Religion and Biblical Literature from Smith College.

Peter Milligan

Peter is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. A native of Nebraska, Peter returned home this summer to extern for the Honorable Laurie Smith Camp, Federal District Judge for the District of Nebraska, and clerk for Scudder Law Firm, P.C., L.L.O. Prior to attending Cornell Law School, Peter worked as Assistant to the CEO at M.I. Industries, Intern at the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President of the United States, and Researcher to Dr. Andrew Murrison, MP in the United Kingdom House of Commons. Peter received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minor in history from the University of Virginia in 2005 and was a Hansard Scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2003.

Rich Beaulieu

Rich is a J.D. candidate in the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. During the summer of 2006, Rich worked as an intern for the District Attorney of St. Lawrence County, New York and also as a research assistant for Professor Trevor Morrison of Cornell Law School. Rich graduated Summa cum Laude from Clemson University with a B.A. in Politial Science.

Robin Davis

Robin Davis is a J.D. candidate in the class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. Originally from the Philadelphia area, she received a BS in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). At MIT, Robin majored in materials science & engineering, was a teaching assistant for an undergraduate solid state chemistry course, and conducted research on lithium ion batteries that culminated in her senior thesis. Although rare for an engineering undergrad, Robin always knew she wanted to be a lawyer and pursued her interest in the law through several summers internships as a scientific advisor for Darby & Darby, P.C. in New York City. During the summer of 2006, she is working as a summer associate for Wolf Greenfield & Sacks in Boston. At Cornell Law, Robin enjoys participating in moot court competitions and is an officer of the both Women's Law Coalition and Intellectual Property Law Students Association.

Samantha Kim

Sam is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. She has worked extensively in Seoul, South Korea for such diverse institutions as the U.S. Embassy and major consulting houses. She graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a B.S. in Business Economics and was a member of the International Economics Honors Society and the Korean Cultural Association. Sam is fluent in Korean and proficient in Mandarin Chinese and Japanese. Her other interests include jazz dance, floral arrangements, and spontaneous travel.

Tim Birnbaum

Tim is a J.D. Candidate for the Class of 2008 at Cornell Law School. Immediately after graduating from college, Tim worked in the Illinois Governor's Office as a member of the James H. Dunn Memorial Fellowship program and was selected to serve as Aide to the Governor's Chief of Staff. After completing the term of his fellowship, Tim deferred his acceptance from Cornell Law for a year to work on Governor Rod Blagojevich's permanent staff. A native of Pound Ridge, NY, Tim returned home the summer after his 1L year to work as a legal intern at the Office of the District Attorney of Westchester County. At Cornell, Tim is Vice President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, chair of the Public Interest Law Union auction committee, and is a participating law student in Big Red Legal, a venture capitalist group that provides legal services to startup businesses. Tim graduated with a B.A. in history and a minor in Hispanic studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 2003. His senior thesis gained him departmental honors in history.

Vi Vu

Vi is a J.D. candidate for the Class of 2007 at Cornell Law School. She spent the summer of 2006 working as a summer associate at Heller Ehrman LLP in New York, and the summer of 2005 interning at the Stanford Community Law Clinic in California, where she negotiated settlements and represented clients at administrative hearings. Vi received a B.A. in Philosophy and in "Science, Technology, and Society" with an emphasis in public policy from Stanford University in June 2004. Vi is fluent in Vietnamese, and volunteered as a teacher before coming to law school.
